OREM — Mayor Jerry Washburn will be away from City Hall for about two weeks while he recovers from a medical procedure, city officials said.
Washburn underwent urologic surgery Monday and will spend a few more days in the hospital, Orem City Manager Jim Reams said Wednesday. The mayor will then continue his recovery at his home.
"He's expecting a full recovery," Reams said, "and coming back to work and being our mayor."
Washburn missed Tuesday night's Orem City Council meeting. Until Wednesday, city staff, council members and Washburn's family declined to comment about the reason for the mayor's absence.
Reams said the city was waiting for word from Washburn before releasing any information about the mayor's procedure or condition.
