Food drive at Eden Resort
EDEN — Powder Mountain will hold a food drive on April 1 along with the Ogden Rescue Mission.
Each person who donates five non-perishable food items will have the choice of a discounted all-area adult lift pass for that day — a $16 discount — or a free single-ride Lightning Ridge Snowcat Pass — a $12 value.
The idea for a food drive arose shortly after the resort's successful Stoked on Socks event, in which 550 pairs of socks were donated to give to the homeless.
All donations will be given directly to the Ogden Rescue Mission, which prepares more than 100,000 meals each year for those in need. It also distributes more than 1,500 food boxes for local families during the holidays.
For information, call 801-745-3772 or visit the resort's Web site at www.powder mountain.com.
Fishing clubs need help
Because of the increased interest by youths in fishing, volunteers are needed for three youth fishing clubs in Draper, Orem and Spanish Fork.
"Even if you don't live in one of the three communities, but you want to help one of the clubs or you'd like to help the club in your own community, we can use your help," said Chris Penne, community fisheries biologist for the Division of Wildlife Resources.
Volunteers teach youngsters ages 6 to 13 about fish, the places fish live and how to catch them.
Clubs in Clearfield, Syracuse, Kaysville, Murray, Riverton, South Jordan, Saratoga Springs, Salem, Nephi and Washington also have room for more volunteers.
To learn more about the clubs and to volunteer visit www.wildlife.utah.gov/cf/clubs.php.
The DWR will offer training in the communities that still need volunteers. The training takes about two hours to complete.
Most of the clubs meet once a week for six weeks. Each club session lasts about two hours.
Shred competition coming
EDEN — Powder Mountain's 11th annual spring Trifecta of Shred will be held April 2-4. Surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders will compete in three separate competitions with one overall winner.
The event is the highlight of the freestyle season with a freestyle terrain and half-pipe jam session at the Hidden Lake Terrain Park.
Registration is free to those with a valid Powder Mountain lift pass. The competition will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event kicks off on April 2 with an indoor skateboarding competition at Crossroads Skate Park. On April 3, the competitors move to Flowrider for the surfing contest. The event will culminate on April 4 at Powder Mountain. Athletes may compete in only one or two events.
