"I know the first time he started doing it, we would look at each other and smile, like 'Man, he's making these numbers up,' " MU guard Wesley Matthews said. "There ain't no way like off the top of his head he's calculating these percentages, but they make a lot of sense."

Morrill, who has been a Division I head coach for nearly three decades, said he's impressed but not about to change his ways.

"I've been doing this a long time," Morrill said. "I pretty much coach with instinct and … you're always going to look at some stats, but I think you can get overly wound up in statistics."

A LITTLE HELP, PLEASE: Aside from the trio of Jared Quayle, Gary Wilkinson and Tai Wesley, there wasn't much scoring from the rest of the USU roster.

Some of that, Morrill said, was a result of the starters getting big minutes. Some, however, was shots just not falling.

Typically dependable shooters Tyler Newbold, Stavon Williams and Pooh Williams struggled mightily against the Golden Eagles — combining to make just two of 15 shots.

The Aggies got only nine points from those not named Quayle, Wilkinson or Wesley, and that, ultimately, may have been Utah State's downfall.
