WHITE CITY — It was a scary night for a mother and her children when a man broke into her home by shattering her sliding glass door and then demanded money.
About 1:35 a.m. Friday, a woman was awakened by the sound of a loud crash, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson. A man wearing a ski mask and carrying a handgun broke a back glass door and entered the house near 1200 East and Forget Me Not Ave. (10300 South), Hutson said.
The sheriff's office was unclear Friday on the exact sequence of events, but at some point the woman was able to grab her four children and flee from the house unharmed as the man looked for prescription drugs.
"He knew where the prescription drugs were," Hutson said. "We believe this person knew what they were looking for."
Detectives said they don't believe the home invasion was random. Several people of interest were being looked at Friday afternoon, but Hutson said investigators believed only one person was responsible.
A few undisclosed items, in addition to the pills, were taken, he said. Anyone with information on the man or the robbery can call the sheriff's office at 801-743-7000.
