Kelly Muir, one of two men indicted in a Logan bank robbery last year, has pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of robbing a bank.

He could face as much as 20 years behind bars when he is sentenced May 28.

Muir, 23, admitted in a written change of plea that he and a friend, Javin Kunsman, 19, decided to rob a Zions Bank at 133 E. 1400 North in Logan on Aug. 20, 2008. Muir indicated the pair wrote out a note stating: "This is a robbery. I have a gun. I want $3,000."

Court documents state that Kunsman went inside and gave the note to a teller, while Muir remained outside in his car as the getaway driver. Once Kunsman returned with about $3,600 in cash, Muir drove off but ended up hitting another car that was driven by a police officer.

Muir and Kunsman tried to flee on foot, but were quickly nabbed not far from the scene by police, including one officer who fell while tackling one of the young men and broke a leg. Despite the broken leg, the officer managed to hang on to the man until other officers could assist.

U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups ordered a presentence report in Muir's case. In addition to time in prison, Muir also faces a potential maximum fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release. Federal prosecutors have agreed to recommend sentencing on the lower end of the sentencing guidelines.

Kunsman has a trial set to begin in federal court on June 8.
