DETROIT — "American Idol" contestants will be heading to Hitsville USA's famed Studio A in Detroit to be mentored by a pair of Motown legends.
Founder Berry Gordy Jr. and singer Smokey Robinson will film segments Thursday with "Idol" contestants who will be working on Motown classics.
Gordy representative Nancy Neiman tells The Detroit News the two men will be on "a tight schedule" and will leave immediately afterward.
Security will be tight, and the set will be closed.
Neiman tells the News the clips will air during next week's "Idol" performance episode.
The trip will mark "Idol's" first visit to Detroit since the popular Fox network singing contest auditioned for contestants during its second season.
Motown is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
