Duchesne cabins burglarized, police say
DUCHESNE — Investigators are asking people with cabins in western Duchesne County to check on their property, following a rash of burglaries.
Duchesne County Sheriff's Lt. Travis Tucker said that at least 40 cabins or camp trailers in the Pinion Ridge area west of Starvation Reservoir have been burglarized. Many of the cabins are recreational properties owned by people who live on the Wasatch Front.
Tucker said the break-ins were discovered by deputies who were sent on a concentrated patrol after a property owner in the area reported a burglary.
"We actually need the victims to contact us," the lieutenant said. "We don't have victims for a lot of these burglaries, because they don't know about it, and it's hard to find out who owns these places."
Tucker said some stolen property has been recovered. It is being held at the sheriff's office.
In addition to cabins, deputies are investigating numerous vehicle and camp-trailer burglaries in the same area.
"We've had multiple vehicles taken, but we've gotten the bulk of them back," Tucker said.
Investigators believe the burglaries and thefts are the work of at least two people. Tucker said detectives have developed information about two "persons of interest" but have yet to make any arrests.
Individuals with cabins in the Pinion Ridge area are asked to inspect their property and contact the sheriff's office at 435-738-2015 or Central Dispatch at 435-738-2424 if they are missing anything.
