Swerving to avoid debris on I-80, the driver of a Ford Explorer over corrected, rolling the vehicle twice and trapping the driver in the car for about 30 minutes as rescue crews worked to free her.
Once crews could remove the 42-year-old woman, she was flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in stable condition as a precautionary measure given the severity of the incident, said Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Jesse Valenzuela. The accident happened at around 1:15 p.m. on I-80 near Tooele. The woman was travelling west with four other passengers, one an infant.
A 43-year-old man in the passenger seat was also transported to IMC as a precautionary measure because of low blood pressure. The 18-year-old man and 20 year-old woman traveling in the back of the Explorer with the infant were treated at the scene. Valenzuela said that the infant was in a car seat and was not injured in the accident.
The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating what caused the vehicle to swerve.
