BOGALUSA, La. — A Louisiana woman has been found guilty of killing her baby by putting him into a clothes dryer and turning the machine on.
A jury convicted Lakeisha Adams of second-degree murder Saturday for the death of her 3-month-old son, Jailand, in December 2005. The local coroner's office said the child suffered blunt force trauma to his head as well as second- and third-degree burns on half of his body. The mother, who also had a 1-year-old child, was 18 at the time.
Police in the town of Bogalusa said Adams admitted putting the infant in the dryer and turning it on but did not explain why.
Her lawyer asked jurors to find her not guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity. Adams is expected to be sentenced later this month.
