Sam Weller's Books announced Thursday that it plans to close its location on Salt Lake City's Main Street and move somewhere else in the downtown area.
The bookstore, also known as Zion Bookstore, has operated in the David Keith building, 254 S. Main, since 1961.
"We are very enthusiastic about the possibilities of a newly conceived bookstore in a better location," a press release from the bookstore read. "It is our intent to remain somewhere in the downtown area, and to maintain the mix of new, used and rare books that readers have found at Weller's books for years."
The release said that the recent economic downturn was the last of numerous circumstances that is prompting Tony and Catherine Weller, the store's third-generation owners, to make the move.
Beginning Monday, the store will begin discounting books to thin the stock for the move, the release said.
There was no mention of when the move would be made, but the release said the plans will be announced as soon as the new location is found.
