RENO, Nev. — For the first time since Utah State brought its women's basketball team out of mothballs several years ago, the Aggies have won a conference tournament game.
Now, the 16-14 Aggies think it might not be a bad idea to add a second postseason win and Fresno State — the regular season WAC champions — are as good as anyone else to get it against.
USU, which beat Idaho during Wednesday's quarterfinals, will face Fresno State today at 1 p.m. with a spot in the WAC championship game on the line. The Aggies were swept in the regular season by the Bulldogs, including a 67-54 loss in Logan just a week ago.
"I told our team all year that if they stay true to the character of the team," USU coach Raegan Pebley said, "that they would find ways to get win. And it was team defense that won (Wednesday's) game."
The Aggies will be led by all-WAC guard Danyelle Snelgro and Ana Pares, who combine for 27.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
