HURRICANE — The Washington County Sheriff's Office is offering free firearm safety kits to residents here to protect children from accidental shootings.
Four hundred kits have been made available through Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearms safety program. The kits include a gun lock, and deputies said demand for them in the past have been overwhelming.
"We encourage residents to pick up a Project ChildSafe safety kit so that they can securely store their firearm," Washington County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Rob Tersigni said Wednesday.
The kits will be available from the Washington County Sheriff's Office beginning Wednesday until they run out.
