KAYSVILLE — Police here are warning people about a scam involving the city-run power company.
A woman recently received a phone call from a private number. Someone claimed to be from the Kaysville City Power Company and told her she was behind on her power bill, adding that her power was going to be cut off if she didn't pay right away.
It was a scam, detectives said.
"She later checked her account and found a $450 charge on there," Kaysville Police Capt. Paul Miya said Tuesday.
Police said they are tracking where the credit-card charge was made but warned others not to fall for the same scam.
"The city does not just make phone calls about being behind on the bills," Miya said.
Another person reported being contacted but did not give out credit-card information. Police worried there may be more potential victims out there. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 801-546-1131.
