Man dies after car hits truck in W.V.

A Monday morning accident claimed the life of a West Valley man.

Joel Moran, 42, was travelling east near U-201 and 4700 West about 7 a.m. when his car went off the right side of the road, through a fence and onto a frontage road after he possibly suffered a medical problem, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur.

The car continued on the frontage road for about a half-mile, until it went up the side of a curb, where it briefly went "airborne" and crashed into a parked car at C.R. England trucking company, Nigbur said.

The impact from the collision caused several vehicles to be pushed into each other. A total of five vehicles were involved in the accident. Only the car that caused the accident was occupied, Nigbur said. Moran was flown to a hospital by medical helicopter in critical condition.

He was pronounced dead a couple of hours later. Nigbur said it was believed he had a pre-existing medical condition that may have caused him to go unconscious for an undetermined amount of time. Officials believe head injuries suffered in the accident caused Moran's death, Nigbur said.
