LOGAN — A man accused of beating a 3-year-old girl has struck a plea deal with prosecutors.
According to court documents, Dallas Ephraim Derrick pleaded guilty during a hearing March 2 to a class A misdemeanor charge of child abuse. In exchange for the plea, court records show the charge was dropped from a third-degree felony. He is scheduled to be sentenced in Logan's 1st District Court on April 20.
Derrick, 27, was arrested after carrying the girl across a muddy field to get help on Dec. 10, Logan police said. The girl was so badly beaten, police said, she was hospitalized for a time in Salt Lake City.
