LOGAN — Jared Quayle led five Utah State players in double figures with 21 points and the Aggies (27-4, 14-2 WAC) wrapped up its regular season with a tougher-than-expected 89-77 win over San Jose State.
Quayle scored 18 points in the second half — including eight in a row down the stretch after the Spartans had closed the gap to just four points — to lead the Aggies to back-to-back seasons without a loss on their home floor.
Utah State pushed its home-court win streak to 34 games as Pooh Williams set a career high with 17 points. Gary Wilkinson, playing his probable final home game, scored 13 points as did Tai Wesley and Tyler Newbold.
The Aggies bolted out to a 27-7 lead just nine minutes into the game, but the Spartans made it tight down the stretch with a blistering shooting performance in the second half.
But after SJSU closed the gap to 75-71, Quayle hit a pair of layups and a 3-pointer to put the game safely in USU's control.
