I always wonder when I see the letters saying "Obama is crushing us with debt!" what those same letter writers were saying when President George W. Bush blew through President Bill Clinton's $128 billion surplus in about a year, then ran up a trillion-dollar debt. The Iraq war, started by Bush, is projected to cost at least four times what the Obama stimulus package is costing us now. Doesn't anyone remember the pallets of cash, some $8 billion worth, that were just dropped off in Iraq? Or the cost-plus contracts? Or the billion-dollar white-elephant embassy? And this doesn't even begin to address how Bush robbed from the poor and middle class to give huge tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans.
Or was all that OK because Bush was a good "family values" Republican?
