OGDEN (AP) — A request to change a municipal ordinance in Ogden on taverns has been denied.

The City Council on Tuesday decided to keep an ordinance allowing a maximum of two taverns per block.

A restaurant owner had asked the city to allow two taverns on each side of the street, for a maximum of four per block. But cafe owner Karen Waters said more clubs serving alcohol would discourage families from coming downtown.

The council would have had to amend the definition of a lineal block to make the change. Currently only two taverns and clubs are allowed per block, no matter which side of the street they are on.
