AP source: A-Rod to meet with MLB on Sunday

NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is scheduled to meet with Major League Baseball officials on Sunday to discuss his admission that he used performance-enhancing drugs from 2001-03 while with Texas.

The timing of the meeting was disclosed Friday by a baseball official with knowledge of the session who spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement was made.

MLB wants to speak with Rodriguez about security issues involving a trainer from the Dominican Republic and the cousin the three-time MVP said injected him with a banned substance called "boli."

The meeting will be in the Tampa area, where the Yankees hold spring training, and is intended to be non-disciplinary in nature. Rodriguez will be accompanied by a personal lawyer and representative of the Major League Baseball Players Association.

Rodriguez didn't make the trip from Tampa, Fla., to Fort Myers, Fla., for the Yankees' spring training game Friday against Minnesota. Instead, he worked out with a group of players at Steinbrenner Field that included Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui and Mark Teixeira.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez will play in spring training games Saturday and Sunday. Rodriguez then is scheduled to join the Dominican Republic national team to prepare for the World Baseball Classic.
