Orem's SCERA Center for the Arts will open its doors to students from the Alpine School District for two official art shows, which will feature pieces from both high school and junior high school students in a gallery setting.

The high school students will display their work from March 6-18, and the work from the junior high school students will be shown March 20-31. The exhibits will be open for public viewing from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 S. State, Orem.

Heather Wilson-Duncan, SCERA art studios director, said the event was organized by both SCERA and art instructors to give the students a chance to participate in an exhibit, regardless of age.

"We really want to promote every student and give them the opportunity to exhibit their pieces," Wilson-Duncan said. "There doesn't need to be an age limit on when you can start exhibiting your pieces."

She said that the event should ultimately encourage the young artists to continue creating.

"I hope to just inspire them to be more creative and also inspire them to pursue their dream of being an artist," Wilson-Duncan said. "Our motto is: There are no real mistakes in art, so turn a negative into a positive. Everybody has talent."

There will be public receptions to open the two exhibits on March 6 for the high school students and March 20 for the junior high students. These receptions will run from 6:30-8 p.m., feature refreshments and allow guests to meet the artists and get a preview of the exhibit.
