Iron County wind farm proposed
NEW HARMONY — A wind farm is being proposed for the Harmony Mountains in Iron County.
Heber City-based Wasatch Wind Inc. is in the preliminary stages of getting a 1,400-acre project approved on Bureau of Land Management land.
The project about five miles north of New Harmony in southern Utah would involve building about seven miles of transmission lines to tie into an existing power grid. It could produce more than 100 megawatts of power off of 50 wind turbines on 262-foot tall towers.
Project Senior Manager Christine Mikell says it could take more than five years to get BLM approval, and the company is still in the early stages. A public meeting on the project is scheduled for Thursday in Cedar City.
Wasatch Wind built a wind farm near Spanish Fork that started generating power in September.
