JACKSON, Wyo. — A U.S. Forest Service official has rejected a request by an outfitter to establish a commercial hunting camp at a popular trailhead 10 miles south of Wilson in northwest Wyoming.

Dale Deiter, of the Jackson Ranger District, wrote that he had received comments saying a commercial camp near the end of a four-mile dirt road in the Snake River Range would crowd the area.

Instead, the outfitter will be allowed to continue using a trailhead "transfer station" to help stock his backcountry camp.

The application was made by Don Gable, who operates Long Draw Outfitters.

The trailhead has become increasingly popular among hunters, especially in recent years when the state Game and Fish Department increased the number of elk licenses for the area and made them easier to get.
