Creamer is, of course, a businessman. There are reasons he wants to be so generous. He wants a relationship with foreign countries so he eventually can set up dumping sites overseas. The world isn't about to stop making low-level radioactive stuff that needs to be dumped, and he wants to make money from it.
All it takes is a little simple research on the Internet to see that a lot of people are worried about dumping grounds. With President Obama set on closing the prison camp at Guantanamo, Colorado is scared some of those prisoners will end up in their state. The Rocky Mountain News quoted Republican lawmakers there last month saying the state "shouldn't be a dumping ground for terrorists."
An editorial in the Philadelphia Inquirer last month said the city of Camden was once "the dumping ground for facilities other communities did not want." A news story from Nigeria last week quoted Greenpeace as saying that country had become a "dumping ground" for toxic electronic waste.
And Nevada lawmakers were recently heard to say they are tired of their state being known as "a dumping ground for nuclear waste."
But it's doubtful tourists or businesses think this way. Nor is it likely a facility that already takes tons of low-level debris will turn Utah into a dumping ground by taking a little bit more.
