Proving once again that no bill is dead until the Legislature adjourns, SB117 was resurrected Wednesday and passed by the House.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Allen Christensen, R-North Ogden, specifically allows physician assistants to be part of the treatment for an end-of-life patient, under the direction of a medical doctor.
The bill was amended in the House to take psychologists out of the chain of command in such tough decision processes. It was supported by the Utah Medical Association, said Rep. Steve Mascaro, R-West Jordan.
Still, the bill only received a few more votes than needed. It passed 42-28 and goes back to the Senate for final approval.
