LAS VEGAS — The Utah Grizzlies (18-16-6-6) scored three third-period goals to defeat the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Orleans Arena.
Tied 1-1 entering the third, Andy Sertich gave Utah a 2-1 lead 6:23 into the period before adding another goal 12:20 into the frame on the power-play to give the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead.
Tom May made it 4-1 with 1:59 left to go as he fired a puck into an empty-net to set an all-time Grizzlies record with a goal in nine-straight games.
May also had assists on both Sertich goals.
Rob Hennigar (two assists) had a multi-point night for Utah as well.
Sertich started his three-point night 11:24 into the first period assisting on an Evan Kotsopoulos goal to give Utah a 1-0 lead on a four-on-three power-play situation.
The Utah Grizzlies, who have been shorthanded for the last six games, found out that they would only be a 13-skater unit prior to game time when defenseman Evan Stoflet was scratched with an upper-body injury.
Peter Mannino stopped 22 of 23 shots in the victory for Utah. The Grizzlies outshot Las Vegas 39-23 in the game.
Utah returns home tonight and Wednesday with Bakersfield and Friday and Saturday with Stockton for four games in six nights.
Face-off for all games will be at 7 p.m. at the E Center.
