JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — The number of visitors passing through the south entrance of Yellowstone National Park was down by more than 30 percent in January compared with the same month last year.
Overall visitation to Yellowstone dropped slightly in January, while Grand Teton National Park reported a slight increase in visitors.
For all of Yellowstone, park visitation was off nearly 8 percent for January.
In Grand Teton, the number of visitors was up nearly 2 percent compared with January 2008.
Yellowstone spokesman Al Nash says it's still too early to make predictions about park tourism for the rest of the year.
Much of Grand Teton is accessible by car during the winter, but only the north end of Yellowstone can be reached by vehicles.
