"Where Do We Go From Here?" will be the theme of Black History Month events at Brigham Young University.

Music that has had important political, cultural and social significance for the black community will be featured at this year's Music Night and Poetry Jam on Friday, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., in the Wilkinson Student Center ballroom. BYU jazz combos and singer Liz Lambson will perform. Contests involving poetry readings and identifying prominent jazz artists will include prizes from iTunes, the BYU Bookstore and Jamba Juice.

Tickets will be sold at the door and are $3 with a BYU ID card and $4 without.

Shauna Graves-Robertson, Utah's only female black judge, will be the keynote speaker for a symposium Thursday, Feb. 26, 11 a.m., in WSC 3228. She will address this year's theme, "Where Do We Go From Here?" She currently serves on the Salt Lake County Justice Court and is a member of the Utah Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on the Rules of Criminal Procedure.

An African-American Children's Fair is planned for Saturday, Feb. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the WSC ballroom. The fair will be a gathering place for children and parents to learn about black heritage and culture. BYU student volunteers will run booths set up around the ballroom with interactive games and educational components. Cosmo the Cougar will make an appearance, and the event will feature live, interactive performances of traditional African music and dance.
