NEW FILMS FRIDAY
CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC — ★★ — This Isla Fisher vehicle is a little too "girly," even for what's supposed to be a "chick flick." Running time: 112 minutes, PG (vulgarity, profanity, violence, slurs)
FRIDAY THE 13TH — ★★ — This slasher film remake isn't afraid to dispatch its characters in a very R-rated way. Running time: 97 minutes, R (violence, gore, profanity, nudity, sex, drugs, vulgarity, slurs)
THE INTERNATIONAL — ★★ — This high-concept thriller nearly unravels around the 70-minute mark. Clive Owen stars. Running time: 118 minutes, R (violence, gore, profanity, brief drugs, vulgarity, nude artwork, slurs)
THE OSCAR NOMINATED SHORT FILMS 2009 (ANIMATED PROGRAM) — ★★★ — Five delightful cartoon nominees — plus four other shorts — that are nearly dialogue-free and are heavy on supposed "pantomime" comedy. Running time: 94 minutes, not rated, probable PG (violence)
THE OSCAR NOMINATED SHORT FILMS 2009 (LIVE-ACTION PROGRAM) — ★★½ — Less impressive than the supposed "cartoon" program, but still worthwhile. With subtitles, running time: 88 minutes, not rated, probable R (violence, profanity, brief sex, vulgarity, brief nudity, slurs, brief drugs)
UNDER THE SEA 3D — ★★★ — This "sequel" to the 2006, large-screen hit "Deep Sea 3D" holds our interest just fine. Narrated by Jim Carrey. Running time: 40 minutes, G (violence)
