Ethics reforms overdue

The coming days will likely see legislators arguing about the merits of ethics reform. Indications exist that at least some ethics reform will be enacted.

Applause!

But I fear that one legislative reform may get lost in the dust.

Republican Rep. Kay McIff is proposing a much-needed reform. His bill would limit the ability of one legislator to give money to another's campaign fund.

This practice has escalated in the last decade. Now potential leaders raise large sums of money (from lobbyists) and then "divvy it out" to other legislators. Is anyone surprised that those same "givers" are then elected as leaders? This practice begs for reform.

I am delighted with some of the ethics reforms that have a chance of passage.

I hope the McIff bill will not be neglected.
