Turns out, one tortilla is all we needed for the skimpy portions my husband and I received. The steak fajitas were delicious, fresh and hot and grilled with red peppers and onions, but they had few of the promised accompaniments (no guacamole, for example) and such a small portion that he was finished eating in about five minutes.
My food, the celoso, was also tasty with its complex blend of diced carne asada, ham, bacon, green peppers, onion and pineapple topped with melty grated cheese. It, too, was a very small portion.
Of the few sides we did get, the beans were wonderful: almost a soup, they were tender, smoky and spicy with lots of meat. Our youngest daughters enjoyed their quesadillas and our oldest her kids' meal of three tacos al pastor topped with onions, pineapple and cheese. Ironically, the kids' meals are plenty big and, when they actually come with their sides, a steal at $3.99 apiece.
We had both kinds of dulce de leche cake — chocolate and regular — for dessert, and they were delicious, with well-balanced sweetness and creaminess. I just wish the rest of our experience at Pastorero had left as good a taste in our mouths.
Appetizers $1.99-$4.49, entrees $5.99-$8.99, kids' meals $3.99, specialty drinks and desserts $1.49-$2.99.
