KSL tops Arbitron ratings

KSL (AM-1160/FM-102.7) leads the latest Arbitron radio ratings estimates by its largest margin in more than 18 months.

The station earned a 9.2 percent audience share in the age 12-plus rankings, far ahead of sister station KSFI ("FM-100") at 6.3 percent.

In these final "fall book" ratings for the end of 2008, KNRS (AM-570) was third at 5.3 percent, followed by KZHT (FM-97.1) at 5.1 percent and KRSP (FM-103.5) at 4.9 percent.

KUBL (FM-93.3), which had held second place last summer, fell by 1.7 percent to sixth-place with a 4.1 share.

Other stations that went up in total listeners were KZHT, KODJ and KBER. Meanwhile, KNRS, KRSP, KXRK, KJMY, KOSY and KHBT all recorded declines in listeners.

Rounding out the top 10 were: 7. KXRK (3.9); 8. KJMY (3.7); 9. KODJ (3.3) and KUUU (2.9).

The rest of the rankings were: 11. KBER (2.7); 12. KOSY (2.6); 13, KHTB (2.5); 14. (tie) KBEE and KUDD/KUDE (2.1); 16. KKAT (1.9); 17. (tie) KBZN and KJQN (1.8); 19. KENZ (1.7); 20. KDUT (1.5).

21. (tie) KFNZ-AM and KZZQ (1.3); 23. KLO-AM (1.1); 24. KEGA/KEGH (1.0); 25. (tie) KBMG and KTMY (0.9); 27. KYMV (0.8); and 28. KZNS/KOVO-AM (0.6); and 29. KALL-AM (0.5).

It should be noted that non-subscribing stations, such as KSOP, KDYL, KTKK and others, are not listed by Arbitron in these rankings. Neither are the non-commercial stations.

NEW SPANISH STATION — FM-105.7, KTMY, now has a Spanish-language Mexican Adult Hits format as of Jan. 29.

"La Preciosa 105.7" brings to the Salt Lake, Ogden and Provo area adult Spanish hits, giving listeners memories of native Mexico.

"El Show de Humberto Luna," airing Monday through Friday, 5-11 a.m., hosted by Humberto Luna, is the station's morning show.

"La Preciosa 105.7" will also air the widest catalog of regional Mexican adult hits, targeting the area's adult, 18-54 listeners.

Featuring original recorded music from artists such as Los Bukis, Vicente Fernandez, Los Freddy's and Juan Gabriel, "La Preciosa" aims to be the market's premier radio destination that mirrors the traditions and culture of listeners' native Mexico.
