Reading some letters to the editor may give the impression that a good Latter-day Saint needs to be a Republican. My observation is different. My Uncle, a lifelong Democrat, served three missions for the church, and three general authorities spoke at his funeral and read a letter from the First Presidency. President Monson spoke at my wife's uncle's funeral, another lifelong Democrat. Examples could be multiplied many times over. Both the left and right have a hard time saying anything good about the other. The church's policy is: "Principles compatible with the gospel may be found in various political parties."
