Stabbing victim uncooperative, police say

Police are investigating a bizarre stabbing at Pioneer Park Monday where the victim did all he could to avoid receiving medical treatment.

The stabbing happened just after 2 p.m. near 400 South and 300 West, where witnesses called police saying that a man had been stabbed and was running around the park. When authorities arrived, the man was not cooperative as they tried to help him with the stab wounds in his hand and stomach.

Police believe that the man, 39, may have been involved in a strong-arm robbery, which led to him being stabbed by another individual.

"Witnesses have told us that he was possibly engaged in a robbery of an older man and the man didn't want to give up his goods." Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones said.

Jones said that the stabbing victim does not want to talk to police about what happened.

The man was eventually handcuffed and taken to a local hospital for treatment, but Jones said he was not arrested.

Officers are still looking for the other man who was possibly involved in the stabbing. He is believed to be an older Native American man with a mustache and a dark trench coat.
