BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Utah Valley (10-9) fell at Cal State Bakersfield (6-15) 69-60 in the second of a two-game road trip Saturday afternoon.
Senior guard Ryan Toolson followed his 63-point performance from Thursday's win at Chicago State with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting with five rebounds. Toolson was the only Wolverine to shoot free throws in the game and made all six of his attempts. Fellow senior guard Josh Olsen also scored 15 points in the game.
Utah Valley had a 30-27 lead at the half and a 20-11 advantage in the rebound column. Toolson and Olsen combined for 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the opening period, including a 4-for-5 effort from down town. CSU Bakersfield also only led for a total of 13 seconds in the first half.
The second half went the way of the Roadrunners, however, for most of the period. They went to the free-throw line 19 times in the second half and a total of 24 times in the game, whereas the Wolverines only got to the line a total of six times in the game. In total, UVU was whistled for 18 fouls in the game compared to CSUB's nine.
