Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and
lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
My wife, Leona, and I had always planned on serving a mission later in
life. Then I had a cancer operation in October 1996. This left me with some
problems, so I decided I wouldn't go on a mission and just serve in our
local ward.
In February 1998, our bishop asked if we would consider going on a
mission. I told him no, as I had already served 7½ years as a stake
and full-time missionary and also had lasting effects from cancer.
