Kearney scored her highest points for her skiing (12.1) and her jumps (4.92) and had the fastest time (30.68 seconds).

Deneen was the No. 3 qualifier, skied third to last and finished third. Alexandre Bilodeau of Canada was the No. 2 qualifier, skied second to last and finished second. And, Colas was the No. 1 qualifier, skied last and won.

Colas' run was, conceded officials, smoother than Bilodeau's and Deneen's, "which earned him the win."

Colas earned the highest points for his skiing (13.2) and jumps (4.89), and had the third-fastest time — 23.78 seconds for Bilodeau, 24.20 seconds for Deneen and 24.81 seconds for Colas. Final points listed Colas with 24.62, Bilodeau with 24.20 and Deneen with 23.99.

Deneen said, "I talked to my coaches and we made a plan and it worked out for me. I feel better physically now than I've ever felt after Deer Valley. It's such a tough course out here."

His final jump was a difficult "D Spin," which is described as: The takeoff is initiated both vertically, backwards and to the side, which starts a tilted primary rotation off of the horizontal axis. ... The body rotations and rolls total of 540 degrees, the skier then flexes and continues to rotate 180 degrees out and prepares for the landing.

Landon Gardner of Missoula, Mont., finished seventh.

Which, he admitted afterward, "was good. I missed the finals in two events, so making the finals and putting down a pretty descent run, I feel I did really well. I'm pretty excited."

His final jump was a "Truck 720," one of the more difficult in mogul competition. He landed it, but lost points on his style and time it took to run the course.

The event continues with the men's and women's aerials tonight under the lights. Finals start at 6:10 p.m.

On Saturday, the men's and women's halfpipe events will be held at Park City Mountain Resort and will begin at 9:30 a.m. with qualifying. The finals will be at 12:30 p.m. The men's and women's dual mogul events will also be under the lights at Deer Valley on Saturday and will start at 8 p.m.
