Raise tax on soft drinks

Instead of taxing tobacco in the hopes of gaining revenue for a cash-starved budget, I suggest we look at a real gold mine of revenue — soft drinks! The supply of tobacco-addicted consumers is limited and hopefully diminishing. The number of consumers of soft drinks, defined as carbonated and corn syrup sweetened beverages, is almost universal and growing.

A levy of a few cents per liter for soft drinks would generate a steady stream of revenue.
