Consider the golden rule

Tuesday's committee hearing on SB32 (wrongful death amendments) shows the same tired, inaccurate and inappropriate arguments from sources such as Gayle Ruzicka and the Sutherland Institute. This bill and the other bills constituting Equality Utah's Common Ground Initiative do not and cannot provide a "slippery slope" to gay marriage. Amendment 3 codified Utah's definition of marriage in 2004 and no rights granted by the Common Ground Initiative bills can change that definition in any way.

Everyone should have the right to his or her personal convictions. However, it is imperative to remember that we live in a nation built upon protecting civil rights. I implore anyone voicing an opinion on any use of the law to consider the golden rule and remember that you too could need the same consideration one day.
