Heavy snow is raising the danger of avalanches in Utah, especially in the western Uinta Mountains.
The Utah Avalanche Center has issued avalanche warning for several mountain ranges. The center says danger is high in portions of the Western Uintas as heavy snow is stacking on top of a weak and unstable snowpack. Large, human-triggered avalanches are likely on steep mid- and upper-elevation slopes.
The center says avalanche danger is "considerable" in mountains near Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo and Moab.
