Westminster Griffins escape with narrow win

HELENA, Mont. — Geoff Payne scored 31 points, including two free throws

with two seconds left in overtime, to help No. 1-ranked Westminster escape with a 75-73 win against Carroll on Thursday night.

The win improves the Griffins to 19-1 on the season and 5-0 in the Frontier Conference. The win snaps a five-game losing streak against Carroll in Helena.

DIXIE STATE 68, GRAND CANYON 59: At Phoenix, Ryan Sanchez scored nine of his 12 points in the second half as Dixie State defeated Grand Canyon in Pacific West Conference play.

Dixie State (3-0, 8-6) connected on 27-of-33 free throws in the game, scoring its last 10 points from the line. Kevin Lindquist scored the team's final basket with 4:20 left in the game.

SLCC 72, NORTH IDAHO 62: At Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, the seventh-ranked Bruins beat No. 2 North Idaho College. The Bruins are now 17-1, 4-0 on the season.

Sophomore Logan Magnusson held the leading scorer in the conference to just three points and finished with 12 points and four rebounds of his own. Sophomore Nate Bendall and freshman DJ Wright both had double-doubles. Bendall finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Wright had 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Women's basketball

NORTH IDAHO 71, SLCC 33: At Coeur d'Alene, Idaho: Poor shooting proved costly for SLCC in a setback to North Idaho. The Bruins (11-8, 2-2) shot just 18 percent in the first half. SLCC's offense was led by Dayna Burgess with 11 points.
