Salt Lake police Wednesday were looking for three to four men involved in a home invasion robbery.
The incident actually began Monday about 10 p.m. when three men knocked on the door of a house near 900 North and 1800 West, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan. The trio asked for someone who did not live in the house. The homeowner did not open the door, but rather spoke to the men through it.
About 7 a.m. Tuesday the men returned, this time kicking out some of the boards of a wooden fence in the backyard before entering the house through the garage, McGowan said.
Three generations of one family lived in the house. The trio woke them up and spoke to them only in Spanish, demanding money, he said. Each of the home invaders was armed and each wore a different colored hoodie, one yellow, one blue and one black.
The group left after taking a purse and car keys. They left in a vehicle waiting nearby driven by a fourth person, McGowan said.
Investigators were unsure Wednesday why that house was targeted or if it was a case of mistaken identity. Anyone with information on the robbery or the intruders can call police at 799-3000 or at 799-INFO (4636).
