Around the MWC

Life on the road is awfully tough

Road teams typically don't enjoy much success in Mountain West Conference games.

This year, it's been even tougher to win games away from home — TCU, Utah, BYU, San Diego State, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming are all unbeaten at home in league play.

"There are some really good teams in this league," said Cougar coach Dave Rose. "I don't remember a year where in the third week of the season the top seven teams haven't lost a home game yet. These breakthroughs are going to be tough to get. And you have to play well at home."

Rose and his team were reminded how difficult it can be to win on the road last Saturday in an 81-62 loss at New Mexico. It marked BYU's first MWC loss of the season and snapped the Cougars' three-game winning streak at the Pit.

Days earlier, BYU handed TCU its first — and only — league loss by blowing out the Horned Frogs at the Marriott Center.
