WEST VALLEY CITY — Two women hit by an alleged drunk driver Saturday night were recovering from multiple injuries, including a broken leg and a skull fracture. Police said Monday they believe the women may have been impaired as well.

On Saturday night, West Valley police were called to a domestic disturbance, said West Valley police Capt. Tom McLachlan. A man inside the house was arrested and taken to jail. The officer also noted two women in the house, ages 37 and 34, who had been drinking, he said.

Just as the one officer arrived at the jail, other officers received a call of an auto-pedestrian accident a short distance away from the house they'd just left in the area of 4050 South and 5600 West.

The two women involved in the domestic dispute were apparently attempting to cross 5600 West when they were struck by a car driven by a 40-year-old man.

"Both women were unconscious when we arrived," McLachlan said and were taken to local hospitals with critical injuries.

The driver accused of hitting the women was given a field sobriety test and then booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of DUI. — Pat Reavy
