A Sandy man is scheduled to be sentenced Friday in 3rd District Court after he was convicted of 16 felony child-pornography and weapons charges.
In his October trial, Wayne Jay Bergeson, 55, was convicted of 11 second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, as well as five counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
Court documents show that the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force made a forced entry into Bergeson's home after receiving information that he was downloading child pornography. During the search, they found five guns and ammunition. Bergeson had been convicted in 1980 of forcible sex abuse and kidnapping, and that conviction made it illegal for him to possess a weapon.
The sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m., and Bergeson could face up to 15 years in prison for each conviction.
