$154K pours in for U. band to march at D.C. inaugual
Due to generous response, the Utes were able to accept an invitation to participate in President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural parade on Jan. 20.
"We are so grateful to all those who contributed to the band so our fine young students can take part in this historic event," said band director Brian Sproul. "Our musicians are ready to put on a show for the country and make everyone in Utah proud."
Private donations from individuals and businesses accounted for the $154,000 to charter a flight, reserve bus transportation to and from the parade and secure lodging.
The Utes will be one of hundreds of parade participants who'll march down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, followed by the ceremonial inauguration of Obama, the United States' 44th president.
