Matt Shriver, a professional cyclist now calling Salt Lake City his home base, was named to the U.S. cyclocross team and will wear the national jersey at the world championships to be held at the end of the month in The Netherlands.
A Pocatello native, Shriver has been racing for the Jittery Joes professional cycling team for the past few seasons. He competes in road racing as well as cyclocross and participated in the 2008 Tour of Utah among other races.
He recently finished seventh at the recently completed national championships and has raced in cyclocross World Cup races in Europe through much of the season.
"So stoked right now," Shriver, 28, said on his Facebook page. "Finally, to wear the Stars and Stripes!"
Shriver and the rest of the U.S. team will race Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Hoogerheide, The Netherlands.
