Trial for a West High School teacher accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student has been delayed.

Court records show that during an appearance in Salt Lake City's 2nd District Court on Monday, prosecutors requested to continue Jose Bernardo Fanjul's Feb. 10 trial. Despite defense objections, a judge approved the delay, court minutes said.

Fanjul, 45, is charged with five counts of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony, and five counts of forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony. He is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage girl.
