Police say a man was fatally shot after attempting to enter his estranged wife's Draper home Friday night.
About 10:30 p.m., police were called to 498 E. 13800 South on a reported domestic dispute and burglary. Upon arrival, they discovered that Richard O'Meara, 54, had been shot and killed outside the home.
Draper Police Sgt. Kurt Imig said O'Meara had attempted to gain entrance into the home before police arrived.
James Christopher Gikiu, 48, was arrested in connection with the slaying and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail under investigation of homicide. Gikiu was inside the woman's home at the time of the altercation, police said.
