PROVO Had somebody told BYU women's basketball coach Jeff Judkins a couple of months ago that his team would be 10-2 going into Mountain West Conference play, he would have happily taken it.
And that's where his Cougars sit as they host Colorado State today (3 p.m.) in their MWC opener at the Marriott Center.
BYU is riding an eight-game winning streak and off to its best start in three years. The Cougars are hoping to extend that streak as they begin league action.
The Rams are led by first-year coach Kristen Holt. Senior guard Kandy Beemer leads the team in scoring (8.2 points per game) and assists (1.7 per game) while senior forward Amaka Uzomah averages a team-high 6.3 rebounds per contest.
The Cougars enjoy balanced scoring, with Shawnee Slade (11.8 ppg) and Mindy Nielson (11.3 ppg) leading the way, with Coriann Wood averaging 8.8 points off the bench.
BYU leads the all-time series with Colorado State, 47-22. The Cougars swept both games against the Rams, who haven't beaten BYU at the Marriott Center since 2004. CSU has a 6-24 record in Provo while Judkins has an 11-5 mark against the Rams.
