MEN'S BASKETBALL: SUU hits the road again this week as the Thunderbirds travel to Kansas City, Mo., for a Summit League match-up with UMKC Saturday night. The T-Birds (4-11, 2-2 Summit) are looking for their first road win of the season, as well as to snap a two-game skid Saturday night. After posting their most convincing win of the season, a 76-51 romp past Sacramento State, Dec. 27, the Thunderbirds lost a pair of close road games last week, falling 61-53 at Western Illinois on Wednesday, then going down 59-54 Friday night at IUPUI.
FOOTBALL: Three SUU football players have earned honorable mention All-America recognition from The SportsNetwork. Defensive tackle Austin Curtis, wide receiver Tysson Poots and punter Trevor Ward all earned a spot on the Football Championship Subdivision squad.
Westminster
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Geoff Payne has been selected as the NAIA Men's Basketball Division I Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 29 - Jan. 4. This comes one day after being named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week. Payne, a 6-7 senior forward from Sandy, posted four games of double-figure scoring and hit for two double-doubles during a 4-0 week.

MEN'S GOLF: Golf director Clark Rustand has announced the signing of Dane Christensen to a national letter of intent. Christensen signed with Utah Valley this past November and will be an incoming freshman in the fall of 2009. Christensen is attending Amory High School in Amory, Miss., where he was the state medalist at the 2008 Mississippi High School Golf Championships after shooting a 36-hole score of 139 at Riverbirch Golf Course.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah Valley's Robyn Fairbanks has been named the Great West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Fairbanks led UVU to a 2-1 record while averaging 28.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. The Wolverines (6-7) will be back in action on Saturday at Texas-Pan American at 6 p.m. MT.
INDOOR TRACK: The Wolverines open the 2009 season Friday and Saturday at BYU. They'll compete against BYU, Southern Utah and Weber State at the annual event.

SOCCER: Utah State soccer will be hosting an alumni/current players small-sided tournament on Saturday, Feb. 21, and all former Aggies soccer players are invited to participate. Those interested in playing in this year's tournament should contact Lisa Willardson at 435-797-8752.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Utes are ranked 50th in this season's first Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, released Tuesday. Conference rivals TCU (25), UNLV (39), BYU (47)and New Mexico (49) are also ranked in the top 50. The team will kick off the spring season at the Virginia Invitational on Jan. 17.
Weber State
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Wildcats return to the Dee Events Center this week for their 2009 Big Sky home opener. They'll take on Portland State tonight and will be looking to end a team shooting slump that has caused a three-game losing streak.
